Well Known Historian Visits Greenwood
Doran Degenstein, curator of Fort Whoop-up, in Lethbridge, Alberta,
paid a visit to
Fort Greenwood this week. He states the Fort project will be a
first class facility when
completed and a credit to the area. Mr. Degenstein is also a founding
member of the
Riders of the Plains, a commemorative NWMP Troop and the Director,
Curator of the
Barracks in Fort Mcleod. (This is a 1.7 million dollar federal
initiative to re-create
the NWMP Barracks)
Fort Greenwood has donated 50 trees to commemorate the fallen
officers at the NWMP
Barricks, that died in service from 1874-1922 and the RCMP members
to date.
Eventually they hope to commemorate all fallen RCMP members in
Canada.
Mr. Degenstein plans to make a trip back to Greenwood in July,
2007, with the Riders of
the Plains, for a show and photo op.
A spokeperson for Fort Greenwood states Mr. Degenstein also acted
as a consultant
for the design and historical overview of the project and that
we are pleased to have
the assistance of such a highly qualified western historian.
